Leadership skills: Empathy (Put your feet in my shoes)

What is Empathy?

By Giorgia Madonno Marco Polo Consulting

The concept and the behavior of empathy are not the easiest ones, but more and more often we hear that the ability of being empathic is a critical one in our complex world, especially if we are leaders or change maker or simple human being looking for improvement. I collected from different sources some explanation that seems to me very effective:

  • A very simple and effective video where Brene' Brown explain the difference between simpathy and empathy: Watch the video
  • The website of the Empathy museum created in London, a powerful and inspiring initiative: Empathy museum
  • The video of Otto Sharmer (founder of U-Theory and professor at MIT University - Boston) explaining how listening with empathy can affect the effectiveness of our conversation with other people: Watch the video

Welcome

Giorgia Madonno is Italian and has been living in Asia since 2008: 7 years in China and since 2014 in Singapore.

Her blog (the one you are now stepping by) is called Coaching Globe because she is a coach and an expert in Human Resources with a broad international background, passionate on people development and cultural diversity.

Wondering what this blog's all about?

It is a learning platform where we are going to share resources and articles that may be interesting for leaders, people passionate by different cultures or in career transition, book lovers and HR professionals.

We are going to speak about topics like employee engagement, leadership and development, career transition challenges and solutions, HR business partnership, emerging and cutting edge organizational approaches, we will recommend books and videos and together we will discover new points of views discussing about other cultures.

If you find these topics intriguing and you think (as we do) that self-learning is an amazing journey stay in tune and feel free to contribute with ideas and experiences.
